Google Business Profile, explained
A Google Business Profile, formerly Google My Business, is the free listing a business manages for its presence in Google Search and Maps. It holds the business name, address or service area, phone number, hours, categories, website, photos, services, posts and reviews. It is what appears in the "local pack" of map results and in the panel shown when someone searches the business by name.
For any business that serves clients in a defined area, or that clients visit in person, the profile is often the most viewed page it has. Accurate categories and complete information affect which searches it appears for; reviews and responses shape first impressions; and the profile is one of the sources AI assistants and AI Overviews can draw on for local questions.
Good management is mostly care and consistency: verify ownership, choose categories precisely, keep hours and details current, keep NAP details identical to the website and directories, add genuine photos, and respond to reviews thoughtfully. Profiles must reflect the real business; keyword-stuffed names, fake locations and incentivized reviews break Google's guidelines and can lead to suspension.
