Knowledge panel, explained
A knowledge panel is the box that appears, usually to the right of the results on desktop, when someone searches for a well-documented person, organization, place or thing. It summarizes key facts, such as a description, official website, founding date, leadership and social profiles, drawn from Google's Knowledge Graph.
Knowledge panels are distinct from the business profile panel shown for local businesses, which comes from a Google Business Profile and is managed directly by the business. A knowledge panel is generated automatically, and appears only when Google is confident about the entity.
For executives and brands, a knowledge panel is often the first thing people see when they search a name, and it shapes perception before any website is visited. If one exists, the subject can claim it through Google's verification process and suggest corrections. If one does not exist, there is no form to request it; the path is entity SEO: consistent facts across authoritative sources, clear structured data on an official site, and credible independent coverage. No one can guarantee a knowledge panel will appear, and offers to "buy" one should be treated with suspicion.
